Ricoh announces rugged G700SE camera with Bluetooth, WiFi, plus GPS and barcode options

Summary:Released for the Japanese market last month, the Ricoh G700SE water- and dust-resistant camera incorporates Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity while offering GPS and bar-code scanning as options.

First introduced at Photokina for the Japanese market, the Ricoh G700SE -- a ruggedized digital camera aimed at business users -- has been announced for the U.S. market.

The 12 megapixel camera is shockproof, dustproof, and waterproof to about 16 feet and is even chemical resistant for industrial usage. The unit sports a  28 -140mm (f/3.5-5.5) 5x optical zoom lens and a 3-inch, 920,000-dot LCD, but the more interesting aspects are the built-in WiFi and Bluetooth support as well as optional GPS and laser barcode reader accessories. The GPS option offers accuracy up to 3 meters and the barcode reader enables rapid recognition of linear barcodes. The camera also features support for SD-WORM memory cards, which offer password-protected, tamper-proof image recording capabilities (useful for law-enforcement or other high-security uses).
