RIM appoints new MD for Aus and NZ

Summary:Research In Motion has announced the appointment of a new managing director for Australia and New Zealand.

Ray Gillenwater was most recently the Philippines country director, but has held various positions at RIM in North America and in South East Asia.

Before his Philippines role, he worked in distribution and sales.

Gillenwater said he saw opportunity in Australia's smartphone-heavy market.

"I look forward to working with our partners and talented internal teams to focus on our business strategy with an immediate emphasis on preparing for the highly anticipated BlackBerry 10 launch," he said in a statement.

Gillenwater replaces Adele Beachley, who left in February in order to pursue other interests.
