"Adele Beachley has resigned as managing director for Australia and New Zealand, Research In Motion (RIM), effective today, in order to pursue other interests," RIM told ZDNet Australia in a statement.

Beachley was one of the company's first hires in the Asia Pacific, with the company lauding her achievements, despite her departure.

"[Beachley] played a leadership role in growing RIM's carrier footprint across the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. RIM appreciates Adele's past contributions and wishes her all the best in her future endeavours."

RIM told ZDNet Australia that Urpo Karjalainen, senior vice president, Asia Pacific, has been appointed as an interim managing director, and wouldn't comment further on the search for Beachley's replacement.

RIM recently changed CEOs in the US, with company founders James "Jim" Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, making way for new company leader, Thorsten Heins.
