Research In Motion (RIM) has won a court battle in Canada that allows it to continue using the BBM name for its messaging service.

in brief Research In Motion (RIM) has won a court battle in Canada that allows it to continue using the BBM name for its messaging service.

BBM Canada, formerly the Bureau of Broadcast Measurement, had objected to RIM using the name, with the matter landing in court.

Although things haven't been going RIM's way lately, with the company recently calling in bankers to help out the ailing business, the court at least sided with it on the BBM name.

"We are pleased that the Federal Court of Canada sided with RIM, and confirmed that RIM's use of 'BBM' does not infringe the trademark rights of BBM Canada as they had alleged," the company said in a statement.
