RIM's BlackBerry to grow more apps

Research In Motion announced on Monday that it will expand the number of applications that can be used on BlackBerry devices. The Waterloo, Ontario-based company will begin trials this summer of an attachment-viewing application that will allow subscribers to view Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Word Perfect, PDF, HTML and ASCII files on their BlackBerry devices.

Research In Motion announced on Monday that it will expand the number of applications that can be used on BlackBerry devices. The Waterloo, Ontario-based company will begin trials this summer of an attachment-viewing application that will allow subscribers to view Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Word Perfect, PDF, HTML and ASCII files on their BlackBerry devices.

RIM also plans to expand its software development tools for developers to ease the creation of new applications that can run on its BlackBerry devices. The company is working with Hewlett-Packard on a printing application.
