Riverbed Q4 on target

Summary:Most of the company's growth came from wide area network optimization tools in 2012. Performance management software is the fastest growing product line.

Riverbed reported fourth quarter earnings of $5 million, or 3 cents a share, on revenue of $237 million, up 17 percent from a year ago. Non-GAAP earnings in the fourth quarter were 29 cents a share.

Wall Street was looking for earnings of 29 cents a share on revenue of $234.96 million in the fourth quarter.

For the year, Riverbed reported earnings of $55 million, or 33 cents a share, on revenue of $837 million, up 15 percent from 2011.

Riverbed's results included $6 million in revenue from the acquisition of Opnet Technologies . That purchase closed Dec. 18.

CEO Jerry Kennelly said in a statement that most of the company's growth came from wide area network optimization tools in 2012. Performance management software is the fastest growing product line.
