A number of Twitter users in Sydney and Melbourne pointed out that the internet went down at around 12:40pm today. Telstra told ZDNet Australia that the problem had been identified and the issue was resolved at 1:20pm.

"A router issue at our Chatswood exchange affected about 10 per cent of our internet traffic flow, across business and BigPond internet services, between 12.37 and 1.20 today," Telstra said in a statement. "Telstra engineers isolated the affected router and services were restored."

Telstra has apologised to customers and has launched an investigation into the outage.
