Safari Bookmarks on the iPhone desktop

iPhone Appr
Let me start out by saying that I am not an iPhone hacker. I haven't even using iFuntastic to tweak my ringtones. I'm deathly scared of bricking my iPhone, which I need to make phone calls and send emails, so I hack vicariously.

That being said, one iPhone feature I've wanted from day one is a way to add Safari bookmarklets to the desktop. It would be great to use the four empty icon locations on the home screen for the four Web apps that I use most.

If you like to hack, iPhone Appr does this for you know. Unofficially, of course.

Tired of going all the way to MobileSafari on your iPhone to use web apps that were built with the "sweet" iPhone SDK?

Provide iPhone Apper with a URL, name, and icon... and iPhone Apper will provide you with an application to install* onto your iPhone. A quick reboot, and your favorite and most visited web application is available from the home screen.

iPhone Appr requires that you have the ability to install application on your iPhone via jailbreak or ssh or whatever else comes along.

While I'm at it, Apple needs to give iPhone users a way to turn certain icons on and off the front page (i.e. World Clock and Calculator) to make room for more bookmarklets. iPod allows you to choose what options are displayed on the top level of its menu, why can't iPhone?

I will get over my iPhone hacking anxiety one day, but for now I'd rather wait for Apple to release an updated firmware that gives me new features–for real.
