Salesforce expands operations with Japanese appointment

Summary:Salesforce seeks to grow its Japanese business with the appointment of Shinichi Koide as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of its Japan operations.

Salesforce.com is attempting to expand its operations in Japan with the appointment of executives assigned the task of growing the business in to a billion-dollar industry.

The CRM software developer has appointed former Hewlett-Packard Japan head Shinichi Koide as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of its Japanese operations. Koide has been charged with the task of expanding the firm's Japanese operations in to a $1bn a year business able to support over 2,000 employees.

In addition, senior VP and head of enterprise sales at Salesforce Japan, Hitoshi Kawahara, will step up to a new role as President and COO. Kawahara will lead the company's enterprise sales and distribution teams, and will also oversee business operations.

"Our dream is to build Salesforce Japan into a billion dollar business with more than two thousand employees," said Keith Block, president and vice chairman. "With Shinichi Koide joining our exceptional Japan leadership team, Salesforce Japan is well-positioned to deliver on its next decade of growth."

Koide began his career at IBM in 1981 before spending seven years at HP Japan, where he led the PC maker's hardware, software, and service businesses.

In April, Salesforce announced the creation of the New Industries Business Unit, which aims to deliver social, mobile, and connected cloud solutions for financial services and insurance, healthcare, consumer products, communications and media, the public sector, and manufacturing. In addition, Salesforce is constructing a new global headquarters in San Francisco, which will increase the firm's workspace by 700,000 feet and boost its workforce by over 1,000 employees.
