Samsung has made it clear that they are jumping into the tablet computer business, with the first official photo of the Galaxy Tab tablet computer posted to the Samsung-South Africa Twitter account.

The Galaxy Tab (pictured on the left, next to the Galaxy S) reportedly hosts a 7-inch touchscreen display and runs on Android. Given that it is a member of the Galaxy family (which is supposed to grow later this year), chances are that it could have a Super AMOLED screen like its smartphone companion. But that has yet to be confirmed.

There aren't any other official details beyond the name, overall operating system and photo above just yet. Personally, I think name is slightly more appealing than "iPad." How much it will threaten the iPad remains to be seen based on specs as well as pricing.
