Samsung unveils Galaxy S4 Mini with 4.3-inch display

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini shares many of the feature of the Galaxy S4, including support for its Knox security software.

Samsung has officially announced the little brother to its flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 device in the shape of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

The downsized handset has a 4.3-inch display and weighs 107g while the original S4 has a five inch display and weighs 130g. The S4 Mini also comes with a 1.7GHz dual core processor, 8GB of internal memory, a microSD slot and 1.5GB of RAM and supports Samsung's new security hardened smartphone software Knox, which is part of its attempt to woo enterprise customers.

The NFC-enabled handset will be available in 'white frost' and 'black mist' and offered on 4G LTE, 3G, or 3G dual sim networks.

The S4 Mini, which boasts an eight megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.9 megapixel HD front-facing camera, will run on Google's latest mobile operating system, Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean).

Details on which variants will be available in the UK and the UK shipping date will be announced at a later date.

Simon Stanford, VP of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland said in a statement: "Demand for the Galaxy S4 has been phenomenal since it launched in April and we hope to build on this success with the Galaxy S4 Mini. This new handset is the ideal smartphone companion for anyone who wants a compact device packed with innovation."

It was originally thought that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini would be launched at an event in London on 20 June, after images were leaked onto the company website before being taken down. 

Samsung said that the Samsung Galaxy S4 device passed the 10 million sales milestone on 23 May. The company also made a smaller version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 in the shape of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.
