Samsung's Galaxy S II coming this August

Summary:After months of stalling, Samsung is getting closer to dropping the Galaxy S II in the U.S. The company says the phone will be released this August.

Shortly after we made the final call to Samsung to drop the news of the Galaxy S II's release date, the company has. The much-praised and highly-popular Galaxy S II will make its U.S. appearance "sometime" this August - though it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to note that Samsung isn't giving a specific date. That honor will likely go to the carriers themselves.

Speaking to reporters, Samsung's mobile head  Shin Jong-kyun noted that, with the release, the S II will for certain compete with the next iPhone, which Apple is expected to release this September. This, of course, isn't surprising and is exactly what we figured anyway. The question is, can Samsung replicate its previous results in the U.S. with the iPhone breathing down its neck? With 3-million Galaxy S II pre-orders filled already, I'd say they have a pretty good chance.
