SAP has a new cloud-based app in the portfolio specifically geared toward chief financial officers, financial industry professionals, U.S. Treasury Department employees, and virtually anyone else tasked with financial planning at work.

SAP Cloud for Planning sports social media-like collaboration tools and advanced analytics capabilities.

The idea is to facilitate a flow of analyzing, planning, collaborating and consuming information -- all powered in real-time from SAP's cornerstone HANA in-memory database.

In the spirit of the consumerization of IT, one might think of SAP Cloud for Planning as a spin on Intuit-owned Mint for the enterprise.

"Our mission was simple -- build a modern financial planning app in the cloud with the look and feel of a consumer app and bring collaboration and analytics where they belong - within the context of the planning process," explained Steve Lucas, president of SAP Platform Solutions, in prepared remarks.

Customers have a three options for deployment: proof-of-concept, an initial test implementation, and a fully-fledged business process integration.

SAP also offer full life cycle options, but those entail more complex deployment and integration requirements based on customer demands and subscriptions.
