Seagate intros FreeAgent GoFlex USB 3.0; 'industry's first' 1.5TB external 2.5-inch HDD

Seagate is introducing the FreeAgent GoFlex USB 3.0, which the manufacturer is dubbing as the "world’s first" 1.5TB, 2.5-inch portable external drive.

Seagate is introducing the FreeAgent GoFlex USB 3.0 1.5-terabyte edition, which the manufacturer is dubbing as the "world’s first" 1.5TB, 2.5-inch portable external drive.

Compatible with Windows and Mac platforms, Seagate estimates that owners of this 1.5TB portable HDD can store up to 60 HD movies, 750 video games, thousands of photos or "countless hours" of music. (There must be a number. It's not an "infinite" drive.)

But thanks to the integration of USB 3.0 technology, you know that you can expect some speedy transfer rates. For example, one could potentially transfer a 25GB file in under five minutes rather than the agonizingly-long 14 minutes it would take with USB 2.0. (But don't worry, this drive does work with USB 2.0 ports.)

Already available in four other capacities (320GB, 500GB, 750GB, and 1GB), the 1.5TB edition is retailing for $249.99.
