Second-generation Apple TV delayed?

Customers that pre-ordered the second-generation Apple TV (announced Sept 1) and opted for upgraded shipping are receiving emails from Apple indicating that the product might be delayed.

Affected customers are receiving emails to the effect of:

"Our records indicate that when you placed your order you paid for upgraded shipping...

Due to a delay, we may have not been able to meet our delivery commitment."

The email says that Apple has "processed a refund for the shipping charge on your order."

I ordered an Apple TV just after the announcement on September 1, but didn't request the expedited shipping - so I haven't received an email. Checking the order status online, mine still lists its availability as "September."

At its announcement, Steve Jobs mentioned that the new Apple TV would ship in "September" and the Apple email could mean that its going to miss that time Window -- which closes next Thursday.

The email could be interpreted several ways though. It could be anything from a simple shipping delay to a component or supplier issue. So it's not worth jumping to conclusions about -- just yet -- but it's worth noting.

Apple hasn't replied to a request for clarification and I'll update this post if/when it does.
