Semiconductor industry to post a profit of $27.5 bln in 2004

According to VLSI Research, throughout the past five years, semiconductor profits have reached a historical high of $38 bln in 2000 followed by an unprecedented downturn, which grossed a total loss of $11 bln in 2001. Over those five years, the industry generated $58 bln in profits with MPUs being the most profitable segment.
