ShoreTel acquires Agito Networks, eyes mobile

ShoreTel said it would acquire Agito Networks in a bid to make a play for the mobile market.

ShoreTel on Thursday said it would acquire Agito Networks in a bid to make a play for the mobile market.

The price tag for Agito---$11.4 million---isn't high, but ShoreTel is arguing that the purchase will give it some pop in the enterprise mobility market. ShoreTel, best known for its IP phone systems, plans to take Agito's software and connect desk phones and the unified communications features that go with them and mobile devices (statement).

Agito's software enables call control, voice over WLAN and location-based features. Agito also supports Cisco, Avaya, Microsoft unified communications platform as well as traditional phone systems.

ShoreTel said that it will be able to take Agito and provide native support for all flavors of smartphones and tablets.
