Slack, Salesforce ink broad integration pact

Slack and Salesforce will integrate chat records and systems so joint customers can hop between platforms easily.

Slack and Salesforce are partnering to integrate platforms and make sure team conversations about sales prospects and accounts are in sync.

For Slack, the Salesforce integration is a nice win. The company is young, and Salesforce integration puts it in a club that includes Microsoft, Cisco, and Box, to name a few.

Slack customers were also requesting the Salesforce integration, which launches in October. Slack, which has three million active daily users and 930,000 paid, has been positioning itself as a core business collaboration tool.

Here's how the integration will work:

  • Using the/salesforce slash command in Slack a user can search for a customer, contact or lead.
  • The search will return three results, and when one is clicked, it will expand to provide core Salesforce account details.
  • Salesforce's Chatter and Slack will sync via either a /chatter or /slack command to get updates from either system.
  • Slack channels will integrate with Salesforce records.

The companies said the integration is the first installment of future connections. Future versions will allow Salesforce reports to land into Slack, write in Salesforce from Slack, and integrate approval workflows.
