Some seedy developers cutting the line at the App Store

Speaking of line cutting, some Apple developers are pretty hot about an unsavory tactic that some less scrupulous developers are using to get to the front of the line in the iPhone's App Store. Apparently, many have taken to renaming their applications (mostly games) with spaces and other symbols so that they'll be at the top of the page in the App Store's category view – conceivably bumping up sales.

The tactic dates back to the companies that start their names with "AAA" so that they'll be at the beginning of the listings in the phone book. Sheesh.

Dave Dribin (via Daring Fireball) posted what I believe is the best solution to this scourge "Amazon avoids this by not even offering alphabetical sorting as an option. Apple should let you choose between popularity, release date (newest on top), and user ratings."
