Already lined up for a slice of Gingerbread, Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 has apparently also been subject to a major price cut as well.

Spotted at some unspecified Best Buy store, the currently Android 2.1-based handheld is retailing for $1.00 with the signing of a new two-year service agreement with AT&T. Yes, $1. Sure, it's running on Eclair, but come on! It's only a buck!

Engadget theorizes that this could be a final stock clearance, which must be the case because there aren't many other reasons to run such a promotion on an older mobile phone that nearly everyone has forgotten about.

When the Android 2.3 update is made available for the Xperia X10 later this year, this could be considered the best deal for a Gingerbread-based smartphone if you act on the $1 promotion now. So if you're interested, be sure to call ahead to your local Best Buy to make sure the device is in stock and the deal is still running at that location.
