Though there was no mention of it at CES 2011, we might not have to wait much longer for the unveiling of a Sony PlayStation Portable 2.

According to our sister site CNET, Sony will introduce the PSP2 at a press event in Tokyo on January 27. Much of the speculation regarding the specifications centers around an upgrade to an HD touch screen, which seems very likely given that's what most handheld gadgets sport these days. All that's missing is some link to Facebook or Netflix.

It's also quite possible that we'll see the curious, Android-based PlayStation Phone that still has many people wondering what that's all about. Or perhaps they'll turn out to be the same device. Either way, Sony is going to have to release some kind of handheld gaming console to compete with the upcoming Nintendo 3DS set to launch next month.
