Splunk on Tuesday released version 6.4 of Splunk Enterprise, as well as an update to Splunk Cloud.

According to the company, both Splunk Cloud and Splunk Enterprise include new interactive visualizations and an open library on Splunkbase where customers and partners can develop and share their custom visualizations.

The collaboration aspect is noteworthy, as it could give organizations a simpler path into visualizations by allowing them to sample a range of approaches before designing their own custom visualizations.

Additional features in both platforms include enhanced analytics, improved query performance, platform security and management improvements. Additionally, new cloud analytics apps are now available for Akamai Content Delivery Network services, Amazon Web Services and ServiceNow.

Splunk is promising that the pricing for its enterprise product will cut historical data storage costs by 40 to 80 percent, whether deployed on-premises, in the cloud or in a hybrid environment.

"For many organizations, data retention costs are the single biggest factor driving analytics TCO," said Jason Stamper, analyst, 451 Research. "The new visualizations, analysis enhancements and storage cost reductions support Splunk's vision for cost-effective machine data analytics and platform strategy."
