Sprint and Verizon release Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrades for existing devices

My neighbor was quite proud to show me his Sprint Touch a few months ago and I have some great news to tell him now as Sprint announced major updates for the Sprint Touch and Mogul earlier today. The update brings Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 and EV-DO Rev. A to the devices (the Mogul already had an EV-DO Rev. A upgrade). Verizon also released a Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for the Samsung SGH-i760.

A upgrade).

A few other benefits from the update is advanced GPS functionality with Sprint Navigation (rebranded TeleNav), inclusion of the Opera Mobile browser (version not revealed in the press release, 8.65 or 9.1?), and a new on-screen QWERTY keyboard. Thanks to jkOnTheRun for the news.

In other recent Windows Mobile upgrade news, Verizon Wireless and Samsung released a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional upgrade to the Samsung SCH-i760. You can download the update from Samsung and will discover you now have Windows Mobile 6.1 on this unique form factor device.

Key Windows Mobile 6.1 updates include threaded SMS, security enhancements, software enhancements and fixes that generally improve the performance and reliability of the device.

It is great to see carriers releasing these updates and I am a bit disappointed that T-Mobile hasn't yet updated the T-Mobile Dash to Windows Mobile 6.1 since I think the Home screen advantage I discussed in my review of the Blackjack II would greatly benefit the rock solid Dash.
