Sprint Drops Galaxy Tab to $299: New Model Coming?

Summary:Sprint is now offering the Tab for $299 with a data contract, an excellent price. Often a price drop indicates a forthcoming new model, which Samsung has already stated it will be producing.

It is no secret how much I like my Samsung Galaxy Tab, which is activated on the Sprint 3G network. I paid $399 for the Tab with a 2-year data contract, and feel that is a good price. I knew the price would drop over time as they always do, which happened today. Sprint is now offering the Tab for $299 with a data contract, an excellent price. Often a price drop indicates a forthcoming new model, which Samsung has already stated it will be producing.

Sprint is also sending out invites to a special event on Feb. 7 in NYT where the carrier will announce an "industry first". Even though that is a special day (my birthday), the industry first claim pretty much rules out a Sprint iPhone 4, since that's been done, I hear. Perhaps it will involve a 4G version of the Galaxy Tab which would be the first 4G tablet.
