At the Security Standard event in Boston last month there was a panel on authentication. A frustrated audience member posed an interesting question:  “When are we going to see the iPod of authentication devices?”  You can quickly grasp what he was driving at: a ubiquitous device that is used to safely and securely access online accounts, networks, and even get you into buildings.   Well this morning Cryptolex Trust Systems introduced their attempt at creating just such a device. I like to think of the Mobio as a hardware token that is activated by a thumbprint.  Or better yet, a wireless remote for access.  It combines a thumbprint reader with some sort of synchronization to generate unique “biocodes” that are verified by the back end server solution Cryptolex has devised.

Of course this still begs the question: “Why not build all of that functionality into an iPod?”
