Straw moves on RIP Bill to avert Lords' defeat

Jack Straw is pre-empting a revolt in the Lords by tweaking the RIP Bill, reportedly

According to reports the much maligned RIP Bill is about to be modified by the home secretary Jack Straw, in a bid to protect it from a mauling in the House of Lords.

Any move by Straw to modify the bill will be seen as a significant step-down, but reportedly he has ordered civil servants to make changes to the bill ahead of its second reading in the House of Lords next month.
