Sun farms out network to AT&T

AT&T said Tuesday that it has won a deal to be the prime network management and maintenance contractor for Sun Microsystems. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

AT&T said Tuesday that it has won a deal to be the prime network management and maintenance contractor for Sun Microsystems.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Under the terms AT&T (statement) will provide all maintenance, management and virtual private network (VPN) capabilities for Sun (all resources). AT&T will provide services for Sun's operations across the globe, including wide area and local area networks and voice infrastructure. AT&T will also manage all other network service providers for Sun.

AT&T will also integrate Sun's 250 facilities in 45 countries. The companies said the "contract also covers day-to-day project management, network design and network change management."

As for the network infrastructure, Sun's network will be based on Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology.
