Don't expect the Apple iPhone until March at the earliest, and quite possibly not until sometime in the second quarter of 2007.

That's no idle speculation, but the result of some bound-and-determined sniffing around by researchers at CIBC World Markets

An analyst report released earlier today by CIBC World Markets Glen Anderson states the case for a launch months later than the current blogosphere assumption of an iPhone launch at Macworld in January.

This view came as a result of CIBC researcher's channel checks with likely iPhone parts suppliers.

"Based on our checks, we believe the timing of Apple's iPhone commercial launch is around late 1Q07 to early 2Q07. We have no exact details onthe form factor or functionality of the handset, yet we believe Apple could bedesigning as many as three different models (real or decoy)," Anderson writes. "Given that form factor and design are still unknown, it's difficultto assess the potential impact of the iPhone on the handset OEM community."

Anderson adds that if Apple pulls this off, competitors who would likely feel the wake of the rollout would include Motorola (RAZR/KRZR) and LG (Chocolate) exposed in the US market, and Nokia (N- Series and 5300/5200 music series) and Sony Ericsson (Walkman) more exposed in the European market.
