Symantec intros endpoint security cloud for SMBs
Cybersecurity firm Symantec has a new cloud product for small and mid-sized businesses designed to help thwart targeted attacks and ransomware.

With its new Symantec Endpoint Protection Cloud, the security firm says SMBs can gain access to a single cloud-based console for managing antivirus and personal firewall software, as well as mobility and encryption services.
To reduce the need for IT administrative support, Symantec says the new service can be set up and deployed in less than five minutes and includes a self-service portal where employees can register new devices on their own.
According to Symantec's latest internet threat report, more than half of all targeted attacks in 2015 struck SMBs in an attempt to swipe sensitive company information. Earlier this year, security researchers with Kaspersky Lab uncovered the cyberspying campaign named Grabit that had been able to steal some 10,000 files from SMBs in the US, Thailand, and India.
The Grabit campaign and others like it highlight the value that hackers place on sensitive data, regardless if taken from enterprises or small firms, as it can be sold and traded on the black market for substantial profit.
"Attackers no longer aim just for the Fortune 500," said Javed Hasan, vice president of engineering at Symantec. "Small and mid-sized business owners must adopt the same vigilance against advanced attacks and deploy the same modern defense capabilities found in enterprise solutions like machine learning to protect their businesses."
