in brief Symantec Australia's former chief David Sykes has re-emerged in the security industry at the company's arch rival McAfee.

The former Symantec executive was replaced by its current MD and VP Craig Scroggie in late 2007. Sykes had not held a public-facing role in the industry since his departure over a year ago, but on June 1 made his return via McAfee.

His new role handling McAfee's Asia-Pacific "strategic accounts and alliances", will see him developing partnerships with system integrators, managed services firms and end user accounts, McAfee said in a statement today.

McAfee's Asia-Pacific director, Andrew Littleproud, told ZDNet.com.au that Sykes had deep experience in the security market, good contacts across the Asia-Pacific region and would assist the company's transformation from a "point vendor" to a broad-base enterprise security vendor.
