System glitch stops trading on ASX

A glitch on trade confirmation has forced the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) to halt trading and go offline this afternoon.

in brief A glitch on trade confirmation has forced the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) to halt trading and go offline this afternoon.

The trading ceased at approximately 2:48pm this afternoon after the ASX's notification system was not confirming orders or the confirmation of trades for a select group of companies, the ASX told ZDNet Australia.

"Even though it was only affecting some of the market obviously we can't just fix the segment of the market so we've had to stop trading in the market as a whole, halt the entire market and we're fixing the problem at the moment," the ASX said.

The ASX said technicians were working on the issue but could not confirm when trading would resume.
