T-Mobile customers can now pre-order the myTouch 3G and order the Dash 3G

A couple weeks ago T-Mobile announced the myTouch 3G for release in August. This morning in New York HTC and T-Mobile held a launch event (check out Engadget Mobile's coverage) and unlike last year when the T-Mobile G1 was launched I was unable to make the cross country trip for this device. Similar to the launch event of the T-Mobile G1, existing T-Mobile customers can now pre-order the myTouch 3G for $199.99 with a two-year contract and be guaranteed delivery by August 5th (maybe the 3rd since that is also listed on one page). Last time, T-Mobile delivered my G1 just as they said on the availability date, but you must pre-order by 28 July.

The T-Mobile myTouch 3G runs the Google Android 1.5 operating system, but does not have a QWERTY keyboard and has an updated sleeker form factor. The Sherpa App is a highlight of the device with the focus on getting to know you through location-based behavior and more. T-Mobile is also highly focused on personalization of the myTouch 3G with lots of available accessories, including skins, cases, and more.

I bought the T-Mobile G1 so when I went to pre-order the myTouch 3G I found that my price was $399.99 and not the advertised $199.99 so if you are an existing customer who recently updated your phone be aware that you too may have to pay $399.99 for the new device. I am personally going to wait to see if the HTC Hero device is launched in the US.

In other T-Mobile news, you can actually now purchase the T-Mobile Dash 3G for $169.99 with a new plan and service. I just returned the evaluation unit (check out my review) yesterday and think the Dash 3G is an excellent messaging focused device.

In other HTC news, HTC announced a $197 million profit for the second quarter of 2009. This is a 33% increase from the last quarter and a 1.9% decrease from last year. It seems the slowdown in the economy may have impacted the profits for the year, but with some amazing Android and Windows Mobile devices coming out over the next few months HTC profits will surely rise in the next quarter or two.
