The centres will be fully up and running in a couple of months and will boost TCS' 5,000-strong UK workforce.

A S Lakshmi, head of UK and Ireland at TCS, said: "We already have a strong presence and are continuing to grow our capabilities to serve our customers."

TCS also runs a large innovation centre in Peterborough.

Meanwhile, fellow Indian outsourcer Infosys also announced plans to concentrate growth on Europe and the UK.

The company is predicting close to 50 per cent revenue growth in Europe over the next year, above its 20 per cent global forecast but in line with its European performance in recent years.

Infosys has about 3,500 employees in the UK, mainly based on site with its customers.
