Technical-document publishing gets assist from Wolfram

Publicon produces platform-agnostic files that can be exported to HTML, XML, LaTeX, or custom formats

Software developer Wolfram Research has announced the immediate availability of Wolfram Publicon, an integrated software solution for composing sophisticated technical documents.

Designed for researchers, students, and business professionals who need to create or publish documents with technical content, Publicon produces platform-agnostic files that can be exported to HTML, XML, LaTeX, or custom Publicon formats.

Until now, Wolfram Research said, technical writers have relied on cumbersome methods for integrating mathematical typesetting into their documents. Publicon seamlessly incorporates intuitive math typesetting technology with additional templates for chemical equations, special characters, and symbols to produce publication-quality documents. Mathematical notation from a Publicon document can be copied and pasted for computation in Mathematica, Wolfram's technical computing system.

To help streamline the publication process, Publicon includes a guided, template-driven document creation system; support for the composition of structured documents matching REVTeX, AMS-TeX, standard LaTeX, BioMed Central's XML, and custom Publicon formats; automatic conversion to and from MathML; and math and chemistry typesetting for word processor-like equation composition. The software features a scrolling, WYSIWYG interface, automated reference management for instant bibliographies, and style sheets that control all aspects of a document's functionality and appearance.

Publicon is available for Windows and Mac OS X platforms and can be purchased online from Wolfram's Web site for $149.
