Teleglobe boss comes clean

Tim O'Conner, managing director of telecommunications firm Teleglobe admitted today that "many customers" were affected by the transatlantic Internet outage earlier this week.

O'Conner refused to give details of compensation. "We will meet all our contractural obligations," he said. Asked why the company had yet to release a statement he said the company still did not know the full story.

O'Conner shied away from blaming other telcos for the outage but said firms like BT and Deutsche Telecom had responsibility for re-routing Net traffic which also failed.

A ship is on its way to repair the broken cable in Iceland and O'Conner assured ZDNet that all services were now restored.
