TeleNav GPS Navigator now available for the BlackBerry Storm

It is tough not to compare the Apple iPhone with the BlackBerry Storm, but one distinguishing functionality that is available and made even better today is voice-guided GPS navigation on the Storm. It is tough not to compare the Apple iPhone with the BlackBerry Storm, but one distinguishing functionality that is available and made even better today is voice-guided GPS navigation on the Storm. TeleNav just announced that TeleNav GPS Navigator is now available for the BlackBerry Storm. With the large 3.25 inch 480x360 pixel resolution display the Storm could easily serve as an in-car navigation device.

There is a free 30-day trial of TeleNav GPS Navigator for the Storm and then the cost is US$9.99/month for unlimited use. There are other limited use plans available too. I thoroughly enjoy using this service on my HTC Advantage and think that $9.99/month is very reasonable for such a functional product that gives you live traffic and POI information. While you could pay once for a GPS navigation software package, the nice thing about TeleNav is that you get updates as part of the subscription and always have the latest and greatest data on your device.

Features of TeleNav GPS Navigator, as listed on the TeleNav site, are as follows:

  •   Full-color 3D moving maps
  •   Voice and on-screen directions
  •   Speech recognition (optional for address entry)
  •   Traffic alerts with one-click rerouting and an on-screen ETA
  •   10 million business listings
  •   Gas price listings
  •   Wi-Fi hotspot finder
  •   Pedestrian mode so you can use it while walking around town
  •   My TeleNav online preplanning

As listed above, my favorite feature of the TeleNav software has to be the ability to send destinations from my web browser to my device in advance of my trips. I can load a month's worth of basketball or soccer game destinations (we play all over Western Washington) and never have to worry about printing maps. Do you use TeleNav GPS Navigator on your mobile phone?
