Telstra's MOG deal continues after Beats buyout

Just weeks after Telstra launched music-streaming service MOG in Australia, Beats announced that it would acquire MOG for US$14 million.

Telstra said Beats would "bring a wealth of talent and experience" to MOG, and said that the sale would not impact its current deal with the company.

"The Beats acquisition of MOG does not impact any deals Telstra has in place with MOG," Telstra said. "We continue to be the exclusive provider of MOG in this territory and offer all Australians access to this world class music streaming service, with the streaming data being unmetered for most Telstra Next G and BigPond broadband customers."

Australians can get access to 16 million songs on MOG by paying AU$6.99 per month for a basic PC- or Mac-only subscription or AU$11.99 for desktop, iOS and Android access. Unlike its biggest rival, Spotify, there is no free ad-supported version on offer.

Beats has not yet announced its plans for MOG, but the deal could be good news for HTC fans, as HTC is a major investor in Beats.
