Tencent Games churned the most revenue among the top 6 online games companies in China during the first quarter of 2012.
ZDNet's sister site CNET China on Tuesday compared the first quarter earnings of the country's six major online games companies. Tencent Games came up top with 5.32 million yuan (US$843 million) in revenue, while NetEase ranked second with 1.8 million yuan (US$285 million) revenue.
At third place was Shanda which saw revenues totaling 1.39 million yuan (US$220 million) during the quarter, followed by Changyou.com at 862 million yuan (US$137 million ).
Perfect World was in fifth place with 718 million yuan (US$114 million), while Giant Interactive had the lowest revenue among the top six at 509 million yuan (US$81 million).
Net profit breakdown
According to the report, net profit margins for the top two players--Tencent and NetEase--were not available.
Despite having the lowest revenue among the six, Giant Interactive had the highest net profit margin at 63.4 percent while its net profit was 323 million yuan (US$51 million).
The second-highest net profit margin was Changyou.com at 48.6 percent, with 419 million yuan (US$66 million) net profit. Perfect world clocked 35.7 percent in net profit margin, while its net profit was 257 million yuan (US$40.7 million). Shanda Interactive's net profit margin was 27.5 percent with 382 million yuan (US$60.5 million) in net profit.
