Terms up for NBN Tas board members

in brief NBN Co has confirmed that the contracts for two board members of the company's Tasmanian arm will end this month.

According to senior sources speaking to ARNnet, Dr Daniel Norton, Mark Kelleher and Sean Woellner — who were appointed to the board almost a year ago — had not had their 12-month contracts renewed and were expected to be dropped from NBN Tasmania's board.

NBN Co spokesperson Rhonda Griffin told ZDNet Australia that Norton resigned from the NBN Tasmania board in December 2009 "due to other commitments", and Kelleher and Woellner's one-year contracts would conclude on 21 August.

"We also thank Sean and Mark for what they have contributed to the Board of NBN Tas during their one-year appointment — a year in which we put in place the foundations of the organisation, our policies and plans, began the stage one roll-out and connected our first customers," Griffin said.

Griffin confirmed NBN Co will launch its Tasmanian commercial service at 9am tomorrow morning at Midway Point and indicated that the company would look to make further board appointments after the Federal Election. This would only be possible if Labor is returned to government, as the Coalition has promised to scrap the National Broadband Network and sell completed portions off to the private sector should it win on 21 August.
