ZDNet's Chris Jablonski cites some of the latest thinking out of Gartner in a compelling piece on the ongoing evolution of IT service management.
Gartner analyst Colleen Young is an advocate of IT service management, which, in her words, "professionalizes the IT function." She notes that "through its emphasis on processeffectiveness, fundamental business management capabilities, servicepositioning and financial accountability, it enables internal IT toaddress credibility gaps, improve performance, reduce costs and competewith external sourcing alternatives."
The lines are blurring. We're going to see software increasingly positioned as accessible services, and IT departments more closely integrated -- if not absorbed -- into the business units they're intended to serve. IT professionals are getting more business savvy, and business professionals are more tech savvy. We'll all be both creators and consumers of SOAs.
