New office equipment will have to be mnore energy efficient. A new agreement between the European Union and the U.S. will push office equipment toward the green end of the spectrum. And maybe we csan learn to turn the stuff off when we're not using it. The new Energy Star standards take effect July 1 and will affect computers, printers and copiers. Energy Star computers will use at least 30% less energy than current standard computers. Even copiers could save around 15% if they're Energy Star. This will matter only if purchasers care whether a computer or printer is Energy Star designated.
