"The Morning Briefing" is SmartPlanet's daily roundup of must-reads from the web. This morning we're reading about cloud computing.

.) Assessing the business viability of cloud computing. Despite the potential value, many firms have taken a cautious approach to deploying applications in the cloud. And, it's not for lack of interest or intent. The current economic and regulatory climate has squeezed IT budgets and heightened sensitivity around business and brand risks.

.) Public sector IT left in the dark over government cloud strategy. A new report finds that public sector IT chiefs need better communication and clarity over G-Cloud strategy.

.) Cloud computing key to fighting data loss. Disaster recovery is a major stumbling block for businesses, but cloud computing technology can help, a CA survey suggests.

.) Oracle could leap on cloud in 2013. Oracle has been known for buying up smaller companies and integrating them nicely under its roof. More recently, Oracle has acquired two cloud computing software companies, RightNow and Taleo.

.) Cloud gaming: fast to play, faster to start. The GeForce Grid that's powered by Nvidia's new Kepler GPU is powerful enough to let you play the latest games on a TV – without a console – or to use professional compositing software from a tablet.
