Three D Graphics will plot a new course for Java this month when it releases Perspective JavaChart, a chart-generation package based on Sun Microsystems Inc.'s ubiquitous programming language.

JavaChart will consist of a Java class library, a JavaBean and an applet.

The company said JavaChart can link to data from many sources, including HTML, raw text and CGIs. The charts created with the application will update instantly when data changes, the company said.

The program will come with 86 chart types, including bar, line, area, radar, polar, bubble, histogram and 11 styles of stock charts. JavaChart will create 3-D charts with wireframe rotation and preset viewing angles. It will be able to convert all charts into GIF files.

A set of interface tools, called Widgets, will let developers and end users manipulate charts. The Widget collection will include a chart gallery, a 3-D view tool, color and font pickers, a grid and scales tool, a status tool, a legend palette, a special effects tool, and a settings palette.

JavaChart will cost $995 per server; source code will be an additional $995 per developer. The company said JavaChart will work with any Java development environment.
