Thrunet signs content agreement with LG Home Shopping
NEW YORK, 18 May 2000 (Asia Pulse) - By utilizing interactive multimedia technology including Video on Demand (VOD) technology, Thrunet will broadcast LG Home Shopping's 24-hour shopping program and provide the customers opportunities to shop by product category.
The two companies plan to create a mega portal virtual shopping mall, tentatively named 'ThruMall' under Thrunet's domain name, Korea.com, to be launched in August 2000.
Chief executive officer of Korea Thrunet, Jong Kil Kim, said, "It is the first time in Korea for large scale shopping content in the form of interactive multimedia VOD via high-speed Internet access service. This platform will provide us with opportunities as new products and technology are developed. We continuously thrive to beef up our capabilities in the arena of e-commerce, and this agreement with LG Home Shopping is just a beginning."
Thrunet has been actively implementing VOD technology to provide a variety of content services to its users. For the first time in Korea, Thrunet introduced Internet drama programs that allow viewers to purchase the products that appear in the drama. For instance, viewers can purchase apparel worn by the actors by clicking on the specific item appearing on the screen.
