Ticketek has outsourced its major business applications, citing growth and improved security as the reasons for its $6.1 million deal with Hostworks.

The ticketing company said its internal ticketing, data warehousing, financial applications and e-mail system for Australia and New Zealand would all be managed by the Adelaide-based provider.

"From where I sit, the main imperative is to ensure a secure environment," Ticketek chief executive officer Peter Stirling Benson said.

Ticketek will also outsource disaster recovery as part of the deal.

"Our technology has outgrown the space available," Stirling Benson said. "Also the increased importance of that technology has demanded that we house it offsite in a fully secure and managed environment."

"This new arrangement will enhance stability, capability and functionality," he said.

Under the deal, Hostworks will provide physical hardware security, connectivity, data centre availability, operating system and application management. These systems are used by Ticketek and call centre staff, box offices and agencies throughout the region.

"Given the growing importance of the online channel, it's a sensible step to move from running our own IT systems to having Hostworks provide a fully-managed solution," Stirling Benson said.

Ticketek considered a number of market players before awarding the contract to Hostworks.

Hostworks already manages Ticketek's Web hosting infrastructure.
