Notebook PC king Toshiba is likely to hatch its entry to the UK desktop market around Easter next year. The Japanese giant successfully launched the Infinia consumer line in the US this year and will replicate the programme here before following up with a business line.

"There is no fixed date but my bet is we'll be there early in the second quarter," said Murray McKerlie, Toshiba product marketing manager. "We will start with Infinia consumer products but there are plans all the way down the line for business products."

The company wants to be a top five desktop seller by 1998 with a six per cent market share, according to one Japanese report.
