I talked about the TouchDown application I purchased for my T-Mobile G1 that gives me some Exchange functionality. Since that time, the developers have issued updates on at least a weekly basis and I just received an email that TouchDown is now up to version 1.5.

I recommend you check out their site to see what all the new featurs are since my previous blog entry, but to give you a feel about how much work they are doing to improve the application the information below pertains to just this latest update:

Create Appointments: Now you can create appointments from the calendar view by selecting Menu/New Event, or long-pressing on a specific time. In the new appointment view, you can specify your appointment details and press Create to cause the appointment to be created on the server.

Delete Appointments: Now when viewing appointment details, you can click Menu/Delete to delete the event. The deletion will happen on the next refresh. On Exchange 2007, this will send cancellations to all attendees.

Faster Email List Loading: If you have too many emails, you might have noticed that the system take a while to load the email list. This has been alleviated somewhat by making the email list load only the first 100 emails, and showing a button at the bottom for getting the next 50 and so on. This should provide a little more speedy loading of the email list.

Scheduling fixes: This version includes some changes which affect the way automated polling is scheduled. This is to address cases where TouchDown seems to be stopping the schedule due to errors or other situations. Please let us know if this is more effective, or if the scheduling appears to be affected.

Sliding Views:When you are viewing the calendar, now you can touch and drag to the left or right to move to the previous or next day/week/month depending on the view.

Selecting Events: In this version, you can touch on any event to select that event in either the day or week views. - Once the event details are shown at the bottom, you can touch the bar at the bottom to drill down. - When there are multiple overlapping events, you can keep touching the top-most event to cycle through them. - Trackball navigation is also enabled.

Email Multi-Selection:This version should remember your choice of showing selection indicators against the email items.

Force-Refreshing: There may be times when your server is non responsive or your internet connection is flaky, causing a refresh to hang. If this happens, and you try another refresh from the main screen, now you have the option to kill the running refresh and start a new one. But please use this carefully, and only if you feel that the delay is due to network or server lag/outage, since killing the running refresh could jeopardize your database if there is any real activity going on.

I particularly like the ability to create and delete appointments and the sliding views. It was a bit awkward to have to press the Menu button on my G1 each time I wanted to go back or forward a day in the Calendar. I am very impressed by the application and as this improves, my T-Mobile SIM stays in my G1 more and more.
