Twitter just rolled out a new and improved mobile version of twitter.com to make it a better experience to tweet on tablets and smartphones with touchscreens, no matter how you access Twitter on those devices (via a browser or an app from Twitter or a third-party developer).

The new mobile Twitter supports HTML 5, makes better use of the larger screens on new devices, recognizes touch gestures and runs fast as it was "built from the ground up for smartphones and tablets," according to the Twitter Blog. While the new interface still gives you access to "your timeline, @, messages that you can read in conversation view, search, trending topics, lists, and more."

Can't wait to try this new version of Twitter out? Unfortunately, you will have to wait for your invite as Twitter is only letting "a small percentage of users on iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android smartphones" to try first, then "rolling it out to additional folks with those devices in the coming weeks."

To see if you were invited, simply visit twitter.com on your device to see if you are directed to the new Twitter. Tell us how the new version really works in the comments!
