UK Anonymous branch takes down DWP site

The group launched a distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) website on Friday afternoon after a Channel 4 'Dispatches' documentary found that the DWP had disciplined 992 staff in ten months over data offences.

The ATeam launched the attack for "failing to protect" UK citizens data, an ATeam spokesperson told ZDNet UK on Friday.

A DWP spokesman played down the attack on Friday, calling the DDoS a "minor disruption".
