A man has been sent to jail for hacking into a Facebook account and accessing the email facility.
Gareth Crosskey, a 21 year-old man from Lancing in Sussex, was arrested on 14 July 2011 by officers from the Metropolitan Police Central eCrime Unit (PCeU), having committed the offence in January 2011, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement on Wednesday.
The unnamed victim contacted the FBI, who traced the Facebook hack to the UK, and got PCeU officers to track down Crosskey. The hacker was sentenced to a year in prison at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, having pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman declined to name the victim.
